SylvanSport lowers price and offers variety by redefining sales and marketing strategy for the GO PDF Print E-mail

In the midst of the economic challenge facing businesses these days, SylvanSport has re-tooled its sales and marketing strategy by offering the ‘GO’ camping-trailer directly to the consumer. This new strategy lowers the retail price point, presents consumers with more options, and offers incentive for consumers themselves to market the product. The GO features a retail price of $6,195 with numerous accessories available to enhance and expand its many capabilities as a gear hauler, utility trailer, and luxurious basecamp. This is more than $2000 lower than the previous MSRP. “It has always been SylvanSport’s nature to take a fresh look at challenges and not necessarily follow the pack”, relates Thomas Dempsey, SylvanSport President. “When it comes to selling the GO, we asked ourselves, ‘How can we most effectively get the product to our customers?’ The legacy system of retail outlets was not the right fit.” Direct to consumer (D2C) is an innovative marketing approach for this type of product, but SylvanSport is confident it is the most effective approach. The savings associated with D2C are passed along to the customer making the product even more competitive in the market. As well, SylvanSport is offering a wider range of accessory options for trailer customization. This tailored offering coupled with the pricing transparency of D2C will assure customers that they are getting the best deal possible. Another unique aspect of the new SylvanSport sales strategy is the way they have harnessed the energy and enthusiasm of the current GO owners. In re-allocating their marketing funds SylvanSport provides significant cash incentives to owners inspiring them to show their GOs when they travel and camp, thereby generating sales via the website. The current owners all know how much attention their GOs attract and they have enthusiastically signed up as “GO-Getters”—an exclusive roving force of SylvanSport owner/salespeople. The SylvanSport GO has made history through its numerous awards and accolades since its introduction in 2007. From “Gear of the Year” to “International Design Excellence” the GO has turned heads and made headlines. This self-described “Mobile Adventure Gear” has created an exciting new category within the outdoor products market.
